I was an SAC working at CCA Steamer Point 1963 to 1965, 2 year tour till 1965.I worked watches of 2 days on and 2 days off.The second two days off was a sleeping day and a bukshee day which sometimes ended as a 12 hour guard duty or stag.I was so run down from lack of sleep that my gums were bleeding and I was listless half the time. The billets up Chapel hill were 40 men type and the day workers finished at 1pm so the noise was bad news.I saw the MO and managed to get a billet near the cricket pitch which was 4 man and air conditioned. This helped but by 1964 things were hotting up. i.e. the Officers Mess at Tarshyne that I just finished guarding one night was bombed by one of the mess stewards after he gave me a drink of lemon and lime. He was under pressure by the NLF if he didnt do it his parents would get slotted and he died at the scene but it saved AOC Johnnie Johnston and Admiral le Fanu as they would be dining there in the morning at breakfast. Our B.F.B.S was hit by a blindicide missile and grenade while I was in the Astra Cinema nearby watching a film called What a Crazy World with Joe Brown singing and acting.A load of C...p and the Cinema cleared out in seconds!!! The Oasis Bar in Maalla Strait was the worst for me as I was up stairs \" scaley bashing \" babysitting for a corporal and his family on my watch called Nicolidis a Cypriot. One of the guys who died there was from Leith near Edinburgh and later in time I was working at Edinburgh Castle in the National War Museum and found his name had been missed off the War memorial book on RAF. It was promptly added.I was glad when my tour was up but RAF Tengah in Singapore was next stop and later Masirah and the Dhofar War and the turtles. masalama sadiques, shufti hinna yimpkin barden !!!

I really savored my time spent on your website that I found was extremely well put together and organized, I will certainly be popping here occasionally to observe how it is growing and possibly offer some extra remarks if that may also help. We've today returned from our annual vacation in Spain, we've been exploring Cabo Roig, a particular favourite of ours, and required cheering up after developing the post-holiday melancholy, so tracking down your outstanding site was exactly the tonic that I needed to perk me up and get back in the swing of things. My vacations in Spain (and Cabo Roig specifically) inevitably gets the mental energy charged up again which help us get prepared for the coming year , the issue being that getting back home makes us just a bit low-spirited and melancholy. Looking around the web for several intriguing internet sites is generally the cure so coming across your web blog was seriously a great help in negating the Cabo Roig blues. It's typically a pleasure to see a site that is well thought out and nicely presented, that we felt your one to be in large amounts and I am sure that it's lovely for you to understand if someone else has savored their experience also to recognise that your time has not been wasted in constructing it. For that reason the next occasion I come back from Spain, I will know the perfect place to return for a pick me up. Many thanks.

I was in Aden from May to October 1967 and was on the last flight of WRAF\'s back to UK. I am a member of the Taw U3A (Barnstaple, Devon) and we have monthly lunches at which we have speakers. We would like a speaker about Aden, but the Exeter branch do not seem to be able to accommodate us. A family member gave me this website to browse. I have passed the info onto our Speaker\'s Secretary who may make contact to request assistance.

I am writing the military life history of an Air Force Officer who served at RAF Khormaksar from January 1964 until February 1966 for his family. His name was F/Lt Jan Walentowicz and he worked in UKMAMS or possibly Air Traffic Control. I have covered his 32 year career but there is a significant gap during his time in Aden. If you can help please contact me on neville.bougourd@yahoo.com
