Does anyone recall seeing a Spitfire in oneof the Khormaksar hangars in 1956.It was in Burmese Airforce colours and was shipped down from Shaibah when we had to get out. If anyone does recall seeing it do they know what happened to it

1 SWB controlled the Malla area of Aden, during Jan 67 until 45 took over at the end. We lost two good guys, but accounted for over 40 terrorists killed. A hard and difficult time with only one night off in all that time.
Domination of our area was the key to everything. It was interesting, most of our Platoon had been in Borneo in 65 so were \'battle hardened\' and well up for the task.
I have been on \'google earth\' and re-visited some of the areas.

I was there for 16 months, did some escort duty during evacuation of families and was on radio duty when Major \'Mad Mike\' lost some of his men who were butchered in Crater. Also witnessed the death of \'Brummy\' Mileson, he was killed by a grenade (Russian made) thrown by a 12 year old Arab boy.

Was lucky enough to be attached to 13 Fd Survey Sqn, RE, 1 SWB and 45 Cdo in HMS Sheba.
Seems like a very long time ago and that period seemingly forgotten.

Hi All.
On June 10th 1964, my late father Joe Holden, was involved in an accident in the Radfan. The Wessex he was in apparently hit a pocket of air and this made it spin pretty much out of control. My dads best mate, Benny Fox, unfortunately did not survive.
My Dad really didn\'t talk very much about what Aden was like, although he did tell a few funny stories. (Including one where in mistook a cow for the enemy ) maybe one to many fizzy pops were consumed!!!!
If anyone remember this accident, or was in Adan at the same time as my Dad, I\'d love to hear when it was like.
It seems that Aden is the forgotten war, and that\'s sad.
Thank you all in advance.
Lindsey

Why is it that so often the Aden campaign is missed out of remembrance services? Each year we attend Ride to the Wall at the National Memorial Arboretum and each year, despite raising this question, Aden is never mentioned. They go from Korea to Northern Ireland. It\'s as if Aden is a \'dirty little secret!\' Anyone know why?

Arrived in Aden the first day Curfew was introduced. My job was in the Disposals Site (Cemetery Valley) Steamer Point.Disposing of surplus military stores of the Navy,Army and Royal Air Force in readiness for the withdrawal from Aden. Accommodated with family in Walleed House facing Maalla Wharf off the Maalla strip. Remember supplying Surplus furniture to 1st Batt. Welsh Guards just after their arrival for use in the Radfan - my contact was RQMS Joyce, who was injured with grenade attack in Sheik Othman. He recovered from this and was commissioned prior to returning to UK. A very difficult period for all those stationed in Aden during these latter 2 years prior to the Withdrawal.A memorable tour!
