Philly Runners -- Welcome

Welcome to our Philly Runners forum. This message board is provided for running-related discussion in the Philadelphia area and around the world. You are welcome to start your own topics and reply to others.
You don't need to post only running-related items, but commercial interests don't have a business being on here (unless you're trying to sell your used treadmill, for example). We don't have "rules" but will try to use our best good-faith judgment.

Please do not list the full name of anybody other than yourself. Please use first names only or first name plus first letter of last name. Messages that include full names will be deleted.

When starting a topic for an event with a specific date, please list the date of the event in the subject line. For example: "Media 5 Miler Friday June 17".

Some posts will be deleted after a while due to space limitations. Have fun, and please be sure to visit our main website for more information on our club and more running-related information.

Coronavirus is coming back. Be vigilant this winter!

Hi all. This article about increased coronavirus transmission in cold weather is in today's NYTimes. As we move into the winter, I am very much hoping that we will be able to continue operating safely. Please read the linked article and observe the following winter coronavirus precautions.

• Wear a mask at the start of the run and when you're finished running.

• Keep your distance, even when wearing a mask.

• Don't run in large groups. The larger the group, the closer you're likely to be to the next runner over. If you find yourself running in a cluster, grab a friend out of the cluster and run ahead or drop back.

• We're going to go back to a less social start. I won't bother with any announcements. Anything you need to know will be posted here. I probably won't ask people to do a round of names. If you find yourself running next to someone you don't know, introduce yourself. I'm going to try to send people off as soon as they arrive. Once somebody else who runs your pace shows up, grab your running partner and go. For speed work, we'll all just head out and then pair up real quick at the mile marker on MLK.

• At Cosmic Cafe at Lloyd Hall, please respect the two customer limit. If you're with someone, only one of you should go in.

• I also recommend running on MLK and not on Kelly Drive. You have the whole road on that side of the river and more space to spread out. Yes, it's boring, but it's better than getting coronavirus!

• Please be vigilant and help us keep running safely throughout the winter!
