RMA Information

My name is Tarah Sipes. I am an Aledo native and recent college grad (MacMurray College '04). As part of an assignment for an Illinois History class, I wrote a paper about the buildings that were once William and Vashti College and then the RMA. I am very interested in the history of these buildings and the things that happenend on the site for the importance they play in Aledo's history and in my family history. (My great-grandfather attended William and Vashti.) My grandmother had quite a bit of good information on W&V, but I didn't have as much luck with the RMA. I was able to find information off of this site while researching my paper and in the Mercer County Library, but I was wondering if any of you might be able to point me in the direction of any helpful information? Any leads, or information that you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: RMA Information

Hi Tarah - There are several sources in Aledo that might help you. First, the Essley Noble Museum and Mercer County Historical Society. Also, Aledo Main Street and they might be able to put you in touch with Col. Lawson and Alan Cavanah, both who were associated with RMA for years and they might also be able to help you contact Sue Ann Millikan, the RMA founders widow. Hope this helps.

Re: RMA Information

Tarah,
Try looking up Mrs Dolores Eshlemen, S College Ave in Aledo. Her husband Phil (deceased) was not only a Cadet but also a Teacher at RMA. I think that when all the items from RMA went to auction She bought some of them.
Good Luck and keeps on posted on your results.
