Class Eight Student, Sheenal Chand's L eukemia - Father looks for help

Father looks for help

(Saturday, October 01, 2005)

A father is pleading for public assistance to help his daughter, who is diagnosed with leukemia and needs overseas treatment.

Ravin Chand, who has been out of work for a month taking care of his daughter, said he was told by doctors two weeks ago, his daughter's treatment was not available locally.

"It's been one month now since she has been admitted at the children's ward at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital," Mr Chand said.

Mr Chand said they came to know of his daughter's ailment when Sheenal, a Class Eight student at the Samabula Primary School sat for her first paper during the Fiji Eighth Year Examination in the last school term.

"She fainted when she was doing her first test paper and she was admitted to hospital straight away. "

As of yesterday, Mr Chand said they had made arrangements with Tata Memorial Hospital in Bombay, India for Sheenal to be treated there.

Mr Chand needs $25,000 for his daughter to be treated in India.

Public members wishing to assist Mr Chand can leave their donation at the Westpac Bank in account number: 9801048811 or contact Mr Chand on phone number, 9968950.

Mr Chand is also calling on the public to donate blood for his daughter who urgently needs B+blood.

Sheenal is the eldest in a family of three.
