Update: 1.27pm LITTLE Jamie Lee Bula will now be able to have the surgery required to heal her injured brain.
A Fiji Times Online story this morning about Jamie's condition and her family's plea to the public for financial assistance, was answered within minutes by a man who was touched by the story and who has decided to donate $10,000.
American author and founder of Fiji charity the Naqaqa Giving Foundation, Gavin de Becker, said he was impressed with the family for having raised $14,000 in the past two years to assist with Jamie's medical expenses.
''I am very impressed that the family raised so much money and I am grateful to the spirit of generosity people have shown the family. We see that all over Fiji,'' Mr de Becker said.
''I read it on Fiji Times Online and the child touched my heart.''
Mr de Becker was grateful to The Fiji Times for publishing the story.
Jamie, who was born a normal child four years ago but began suffering seizure attacks two years back, needed $10,000 more to complete the total cost for travel, operation and accommodation.
Her grandmother, Diana Bula was a very happy woman when she was told the good news.
''I can only thank God for this good deed.''
She says her family will be in touch with doctors at Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital to find out the date of the surgery.
''This will determine when Jamie will leave Fiji for her operation,'' Ms Bula said.
