Anyone fishing the Dan for Stripers would do well to work the banks. On Saturday I noticed a lot of folks sitting out 30 feet or more from the banks fishing the center part of the river (and not catching much if anything at all). I worked the banks and caught most of my fish within 12 feet of the bank with many only half that. ended up with 16 for the 2nd day in a row, and caught some of the biggest fish to hit my boat in the past couple of years. The males are swollen so bad now that you can see them streaming before you get the net in the boat. Most of the big fish I've caught the past two weeks have been down river below Neil's bottoms. With the warmer weather here - they'll be spawning by mid week, so yesterday is most likely my last trip for this year as I normally do not want to stress the fish duing the spawn. I know the few I catch won't bother the overall process, but I just like to minimize the pressure on them (and my tired old bones too!).
