Catfishing

i am planning on heading to the lake this saturday afternoon to do some catfishing .. was wondering where the best areas to fish were .. just general areas to try ... i have heard that the fish were still in the rivers but also to try where the rivers fork ... and the best method for catching some blues ... i am kind of new to this and just looking for some advice to get started
thanks

Re: Catfishing

Thing is, catfish are anywhere in the lake and
rivers. Use live bait, shad or bream, and fish
from Bluestone to where the rivers split. The
lake, use suspended bait and try to locate on
your graph the depth you see fish because this
is where the oxygen level is the greatest. For
rivers, the bigger fish are from Arrons Creek
intersection at Dan River, and the first log
jam up the Staunton. I hope this helps, and
read other posts here. We went two weeks ago
from Island Creek to the Hog Pen and landed
14 nice blues. Fishing summer pattern catfish
greatly depends on the oxygen level and where
bait fish hang out.

Re: Catfishing

thanks for the info .. when you say from aarons creek .. do you mean from there up the river or back down towards the lake?
thanks

Re: Catfishing

That's from Arrons up the river, but generally
around that location that has pockets or deep
holes. While you're heading up, look for log jams
because those old flatheads like to rest on them
until it's time to move into the shallows at night
for feeding.
