I have been thanking about a float trip down the Smith river between Martinsville VA & Eden NC. Has anyone done this that can give me some info ?
Will probably take a ultralite and a medium action spinning rod. Any other information will be appreciated.

Mofish thanks for the info on the carp I live right outside of martinsville and although I've never floated the river I've fished several places in between and I've caught smallmouth and every once in while trout.
Well you can catch a lot of different kinds of fish on a float trip down the Smith River,theres a couple places you might have to step out of the boat and pull her a tad but the trip is worth it,take some rooster tails,small white flukes and some small topwater stuff for around the blowdowns and pools,bug spray and you are off.Yor trip is going to end in Eden unless you like putting in and going around some barriers.
