I have a 55 hp (older) motor. It has always been hard to start, I have to pump and pump the bulb more than any other motor I have ever had. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds to me like maybe a bad bulb or pressure is leaking at a connection point.I would suggest to replace the entire bulb and line assembly and if it doesn't correct the problem then it could be a bad diaphram in the carburetor. Hope this may help ya.
You might try changing the fuel line and putting a new one on. Sometimes the O-Ring in the ends will go bad and it will suck air. Also might try a new fuel pump. These are the easy things . Power pack or coils might also be bad. Good Luck!
Yep,sounds like you are getting more air than gas in the sense that you have to keep pumping the bulb.Ceck to make sure you are getting fire at the spark plugs,if so it is a gas problem,if not than start with the coil(s) than work your way up to the power packs, power packs can go bad just by sitting,i don't know why,but they just do.Always check the least expensive things first. You may want to invest in an multi test meter to help out.The ones with the needle dial are the best ones to use.Gone fishing.
