Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

I am thinking about purchasing some used Shimano Corsair cs300 & cs301 to clean and lube and also "super tune" and then resale at a very reasonable price.$30 to $40 range. I was wondering, before I do this , is there enough interest out there. I have cleaned and lubed reels for alot of you so you know what type of work I do. If you are not familiar with super tuning, It is sanding and polishing certain parts of the reel to improve performance and casting distance. I appreciate any feed back on this issue.

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

Do you think this reel would perform as well, less or better than a new one? I would think if it were supertuned it would cast farther than a new one. Just curious. Do you have a description of it too? I couldn't find that model in my BPS catalog.
Thanks!

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

Raymond,
I didn't buy these reels but I am looking at some others.Bass pro megas', and some Abu Garcias. I can super tune a used reel and it will perform better than a new one. It is smoother and cast further. A super tuned reel will add an average of 30'-50' with less effort. All the new reels I buy, I take apart and clean the bearings and re-oil, grease and super tune the reel. The reason I take a new reel apart is the manufacture will grease the bearings instead of oiling and will over grease the gears. This causes dirt and dust to build up quicker and cuts the performance. If you ever get the chance, take the cover off a new reel and look at the grease on the bearings and all the grease on the inside of the reel. I will let you know what reels I get and how much they will be. By the way, how's the fishing at Buggs?

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

i haven't had alot of time to fish between work and physical therapy. I was hoping yesterday my dr would let me go back full time and end PT. But dr said another month. Just delayed my fishing schedule. When things go back to normal I will bring my boat out. One day we will have to go and you can tell me how to take apart a reel. I started to take one apart and stopped before I screwed it up. Too many parts.

You might want to contact cabelas or BPS and find out how to get the returned reels. I see alot sold on ebay and some said they bought them from the dealer.

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

Thanks Raymond, I will try to contact them and do that. I will be glad to come down and we can fish some when the Doc lets you. Just let me know and I will bring my boat. Be glad to show you how to take the reel apart. I always like to help other fishermen out if I can. Maybe God will show me some favor when my day comes.

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

I am ready to go anytime that it has not been raining. This rain really limits what I do. I have been fishing some ponds from the bank lately. I don't have to load, unlaod a boat, and i don't have to take the pounding against the waves. I work in south boston, uusualy Monday through Friday.

Do you ever fish the dan up your way for smallies? Man, I love to catch them. I want to take a trip this summer to the upper James for them. That is the one citation I want. I have come close but they haven't been over 5lbs to get a citation. Redeye spinnerbaits and mister twister exude tubes are my favorites to throw.

You are deifnitely right about helping others. The more you help the more you get back in return.

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

No I have never fished the Dan for smallies. We make a couple of trips to the New and James in Buccannan and near Blacksburg and float canoes for smallies. Going to try and go in the next few weeks.Great this time of year. Waiting until my son graduates from college next week and I have a club tournament at Buggs the weekend of the 19th. Will try the river after that.

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

Bassman, as to your original question, I will purchase one of the refurbished reels from you when you get them ready.

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

Dave,
I don't have any more of the Corsairs but I will have a new Abu Garcia 1003lp and a used Bass Pro Mega round reel by the end of this week or the first of next week. I am going to clean and "Super Tune" both of these. I may have some others in the next few days also. I will post whatever I have and they will be in the same price range. The Abu may be a little more since it is new, but no more than $45.

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

raymond,

Does it hurt when you yank tyhe pole to set the hook?Doc or no doc,if you are seen doing activities,no matter what kind, your check stops here and you will have to pay every cent back. They are famous for watching,so watch out.The way they see it if you can fish, than you can work.It really doesn't look good.

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

I know Buggs. I am back at work now, just not full time. That is there choice, I tried to go back full time the last 2 months and my dr won't let me. But thanks for the advice. I follow what they let me do, that is why my boat is full of leaves lol

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

Bassman13, been usin AMB round reels for 40 yrs, went to shimano curados 5 yrs ago, the 200BSF. my question is will these newer reels benefit from super tuning? Thanx. FD

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

Fishdoc,
Super Tuning will help any reel perform better and smoother. You won't gain as much distance with the newer reels as the older but you will notice a difference. I did some Curados for my son and he gained an average of 20' to his cast with a lot less effort. The biggest difference is the smoothness of the reel. Since you are sanding and polishing friction points, there is less drag on these parts and they work together better and smoother.

Re: Super Tuned Shimano Corsair

Dave,
I will have another Corsair CS400 by this weekend that I am going to clean and super tune if you are interested. I will let it go for $30 plus the cost of shipping. Let me know if interested and I will send you pictures of it.
