removing rust off trailer wheels

i've had a problem w/ my chrome wheels on my boat trailer getting rust on them- does anyone have a cure for this dilemma- i would like to know how to get the rust off and how to keep it off-any suggestions would be greatly appreciated-thanks

Re: removing rust off trailer wheels

I'd use Mother's Aluminum polish. You can get it from Wal-Mart. It will get most of it off and better yet help keep it from spreading. Chrome looks good but you have to give it constant attention. Mother's also makes a polishing ball that goes on the end of a drill. They make a large for big surfaces and a small for getting into nooks and crannies. Do yourself a favor and try one. You put the polish on the wheel and then use the ball to get it off. I don't put it on the ball. they are a little pricey but well worth it in my opinion. Good Luck.

SOS pads will get the rust off then put a good coat of wax on them.
