I've what may be a pretty daft question, but one that I couldn't find an answer too.
I'm going to be composting home and garden waste, most likely in an enclosed container.
What I don't understand is, if I simply add composting ingredients: leaves, cardboard, coffee grounds, fruit skins etc, is the process of composting automatic, or do I have to add something like a "packet of microbes"? Sorry if this sounds a bit stupid but I've really no idea if it's just a natural process that begins with the breakdown of organic matter on its ow, or how much human intervention is required.
Another point. I'm originally from the UK and now live in Mexico. While there's no shortage of beasties nipping around I've yet to see an earthworm, I know they play an important role in a garden, what about composting?
