i started composting this year for the first time. i have a nice pile going in a wire cage. it has been working for 3 weeks. when should i notice some worms in the compost?
You may get worms in the lower-temp parts of the pile now if you built a hot batch pile and have been turning it properly, but you may not. There are many decomposers, not just worms. Which ones show up at any given time depend on too many variables to list. Don't worry too much about which specific decomposers you get. The ones that are available and ready to eat what you offer will come and reproduce to the population level that your pile can sustain.
