In the belly of the great white fish Jonah has a revelatory insight (a revelation): "they that observe lying vanities (laws) forsake their own mercy (grace)"... concurs with Solomon in Ecclesiastes that all grace + law is vanity and vexation(frustration) of spirit. Also concurs with Paul in NT and Bible end.
In the story, and as told by Paul in 1Cor 13, "prophecies(plural: grace + law) shall fail". Indeed they did for Nineveh, and when the people believed God (grace is sufficient, no law req'd) the no name king disrobed (got uncovered: meaning of revelation), stepped down and sat in the ashes (place for law).
