Very recently this discussion board got attacked badly and hundreds and hundreds of spam messages appeared.

I have never seen anything like this before and we still do not know the reason. It was considerable work to remove the threat but we think we have done so. Up to now I had thought it was impossible to spam a discussion board!

I would welcome suggestions from anyone else who has been similarly attacked.We have put four symbols which you now have to type to post and hope this will do the trick.
