Philly Runners -- Welcome

Welcome to our Philly Runners forum. This message board is provided for running-related discussion in the Philadelphia area and around the world. You are welcome to start your own topics and reply to others.

You don't need to post only running-related items, but commercial interests don't have a business being on here (unless you're trying to sell your used treadmill, for example). We don't have "rules" but will try to use our best good-faith judgment.

Please do not list the full name of anybody other than yourself. Please use first names only or first name plus first letter of last name. Messages that include full names will be deleted.

When starting a topic for an event with a specific date, please list the date of the event in the subject line. For example: "Media 5 Miler Friday June 17".

Some posts will be deleted after a while due to space limitations. Have fun, and please be sure to visit our main website for more information on our club and more running-related information.

The Run on Saturday, Aug 31 will meet at Lloyd Hall at 8am -- parking restrictions all week

Hi all.

There will be road closures and parking restrictions in effect through Tuesday, September 3 in the area surrounding the Art Museum and Ben Franklin Parkway due to the concert over Labor Day weekend.

This will affect the runs of Tuesday August 27, Thursday August 29, Saturday August 31 and possibly Tuesday September 3.

Please plan accordingly. Figure on taking longer to find parking, parking farther away and taking longer to walk from where you parked to the run meetup, including walking around barriers surrounding areas that you might normally walk through.

Run on Saturday August 31 at 8am -- Meetup spot is relocated to Lloyd Hall

Our main map shows Lloyd Hall as well as the usual meetup spot. Lloyd Hall is northwest of the regular meetup spot and is shown on the map as having parking, restrooms and a snack bar/café. http://www.phillyrunners.org/map.html

This run will be at 8am and will be the last 8am run of the season. The run on Saturday September 7 will be at 9am and will be back at the Art Museum.

Also, the meetup spot for runs other than September 1 may be relocated somewhat away from the Art Museum steps and more towards the Rocky Statue or farther along on Kelly Drive. For all runs other than Saturday, September 1, if the meetup spot has to be relocated, it will be relocated to the closest available spot on the Kelly Drive path. Just go along Kelly Drive until the path is open and that’s where we’ll be.

To get to Lloyd Hall and around the concert venue:
From Center City, Fitler Square, Rittenhouse Square, Race Street and points south: Use the path coming up from 25th and Locust, run under MLK/West River Drive, by the Waterworks, behind and below the museum to bypass the concert venue in front of the museum. http://www.phillyrunners.org/donut.html (zoom out for all trail access points)

From West Philly: Access the path from JFK, Market Street, Chestnut or Walnut Bridges. Then follow directions above. http://www.phillyrunners.org/donut.html (zoom out for all trail access points)

From areas north of Ben Franklin Parkway, including Chinatown, Fishtown, parts of Old City, Northern Liberties, Art Museum area: Get to Fairmount ave. and take Fairmount ave. west to Kelly Drive. Head down Kelly to Lloyd Hall.

By car:
From the west: Take I-76 east to Girard. Left on Girard, right on Sedgely after crossing the river, down the hill, park before crossing Kelly Drive. When you see the line of parked cars backing up, pull over and park.

From the south and east: Take I-76 west to Girard, merge onto 34th St, right on Girard, right on Sedgely after crossing the river, down the hill, park before crossing Kelly Drive. When you see the line of parked cars backing up, pull over and park.

From the north: Route 1 south. Take the Ridge Ave/Kelly Drive exit, the last exit before Rte 1 runs into I-76. Follow along until the road ends at Kelly Drive. Left on Kelly, take it into town, but stop at Lloyd Hall before you get in to the city, take a left at the light at Loyd Hall (Sedgely) and park on the hill.

I don't recommend coming down on I-95 South to I-676 west, because this will likely be very congested. If you do, take I-676 west all the way to I-76 west, then get off at Girard, merge onto 34th St, right on Girard, right on Sedgely after crossing the river, down the hill, park before crossing Kelly Drive. When you see the line of parked cars backing up, pull over and park. Do not exit at 22nd St in town. You'll be on the wrong side of the Parkway and may not be able to get across.

Please allow extra time to get to Lloyd Hall. Extra time to drive, extra time to park, extra time to walk from your car.

If you can, walk or bike to the run on August 31. Driving is highly not recommended.
