Welcome to our Philly Runners forum. This message board is provided for running-related discussion in the Philadelphia area and around the world. You are welcome to start your own topics and reply to others.
You don't need to post only running-related items, but commercial interests don't have a business being on here (unless you're trying to sell your used treadmill, for example). We don't have "rules" but will try to use our best good-faith judgment.
Please do not list the full name of anybody other than yourself. Please use first names only or first name plus first letter of last name. Messages that include full names will be deleted.
When starting a topic for an event with a specific date, please list the date of the event in the subject line. For example: "Media 5 Miler Friday June 17".
Some posts will be deleted after a while due to space limitations. Have fun, and please be sure to visit our main website for more information on our club and more running-related information.
Hi all. The four of us met last Thursday to discuss a few things that came out of the all-club meeting back in April. Below are the exciting details.
Thursday Runs: We will be starting Thursday runs in June. These runs will have a hill workout theme. They will meet at 6:30pm, same place as always, and proceed to Lemon Hill for a nice workout. Of course, if you don’t feel like running hills, you are welcome to come to the Thursday runs anyway and run whatever you like.
Volunteering: We looked into volunteering and the tax and liability issues that could potentially come from volunteering for races. For liability, the races have insurance, which covers the volunteers. For taxes, we can receive up to $600 per year before there is a tax issue. Shanley is our treasurer and is responsible for taking in the money, keeping track of it and using it to reimburse people who spend money on behalf of the club. There is no “club account” because we are not a legal entity. The majority of the expenditures come in the form of the website, which is about $200 for two years (web hosting and domain) and the message board, which is about $80 for two years. We recently just paid for all of this, so we should have no bills coming due anytime soon.
Club Calendar: We discussed creating a calendar that can be modified by club members and decided against it. The message board serves that purpose and events on the message board will be moved to the website home page and/or calendar at Seth’s discretion. If you post something on the board and specifically do or don’t want it posted to the home page or calendar, you may state that in the message. Furthermore, it wasn’t clear to us that anybody looks at the current calendar, which is linked from the website.
Club contacts: Seth, Mallory, Shanley and Brian now all have phillyrunners.org email addresses, which can be accessed through the contact/join page on the website. If you ever need to get ahold of us, either find us at a run or email us through the website.
