A family drama set in Addis, revolves around a father struggling to save his only daughter from a heart problem that can not be treated locally. An issue that had brought about the fund raising campaign of “One Birr for One Heart” in 2003 to construct a cardiac treatment center for children. The movie contributes greatly to such similar efforts in the future by publicizing and creating awareness. For this it should be given two thumps up.

The movie starts slow with long unnecessary scenes but picks up with better acting, more powerful soundtracks and faster moving story. However the dialogue leaves so much to be desired, it is very obvious that the script was done in a hurry. Rumor has it that it only took sex months for Zelalem (Director) to write the script and finish shooting. Once you see the film it becomes not so hard to believe.

As for the lighting and editing it is by far the best movie made in Ethiopia so far (excluding Haile Girema movies, of course!). The director claims that he spent over a million birr for the making of the film, when compared with other Ethiopian movies it is quite believable. Semayawi feres, Serawit said his movie took 500 thousand to make; whose camera work and editing are by far inferior to that of the 11th hour.

The 11th hour has something going for it: A high budget and imported talent. Both worked in its favor - the sound and the picture quality were great. The story - it took me an hour to figure out that there was one - was not only impossible to understand, but it was rather ridiculous and hard to believe and it was badly told. It had absolutely no flow from scene to scene – a smooth transition would have been welcome. The movie just felt like a bad imitation of Denzel Washington’s John Q. Yeah, it is cool to see Ethiopian movies but this just felt like work and I wanted my 20 birr back at the end of it.

11ኛው ሰዓት፣

አንድ አባት የልብ ህመምተኛ ልጁን ውጭ አገር ልኮ በማሳከም ከሚጠብቃት ሞት ለማዳን የሚያደርገውን ጥረት የሚተርክ ፊልም ነው ማለት ይቻላል። እንደ ኤፍሬም ሆኖ የሚሰራው መሪ ተወኒ ሰለሞን ቦጋለ ነው። ኤፍሬም ለአንድ የማስታወቂያ ድርጅት ፎቶግራፍ አንሺ ሆኖ ይሰራል። ፊልሙ የሚጀምረው ኤፍሬም የመነጽር ማስታወቂያ የሚሆን ፎቶ ለማንሳት የሀመር ብሄሬስብ እሚገኝበት ስፍራ ድረስ ሲሄድ ነው። ገነት በአጋጣሚ አጎትዋን ለመጠየቅ እዚያ መጥታ ያገኛትና ይተዋወቃታል። ስራውን ጨርሶ ሲመለስ መንገድ ላይ ሽንቴን ልሽና ብሎ ከመኪና ይወርዳል። ለመሽናት ወደ ቁጥቁዋጦው ገባ እንዳለ ሁለት ሰዎች አንድ ሰው ሊገድሉ በለው በለው ሲባባሉ ይስማና ካሜራውን ይዞ ይጠጋል። ሰዎቹ ሰውየውን በሽጉጥ ልክ ሲገሉት ፎቶ ያነሳና ከአካባቢው ወዲያው ይሰወራል።

የወንጀሉን ፎቶ ለአሰሪው በማሳየት ምክር ይጠይቃል። አሰሪው ምን ጣጣ ውስጥ አስገባህ፣ ምንስ ሊያደርግልህ አነሳኸው፣ አሁንም ቢሆን እርሳው ይለዋል። ዋናው ገጸባህሪያችን የግድያ ወንጀል የሚያክል ነገር፣ ዝንብ የሞተ ያህል ሳያስጨንቀው ዝም ብሎ ይኖራል። ከገነት ጋር ይቀራረባል። ይጋባል። ሴት ልጅ ይወልዳሉ።

ከስበት ዓመት በሁዋላ፣ የልጅቱ እድሜ ለትምህርት እንደበቃ ማለት ነው፣ ፊልሙ አርባ ስምተኛው ደቂቃ ማለትም ልክ መሀል ላይ ሲደርስ፣ ገንት በድንገተኛ የመኪና አደጋ ትሞታለች። እዚህ ነጥብ ላይ የኤፍሬም ህይወት መለወጥ ሲጀምር እናያለን። ማጨስ፣ መጠጣትና ማምሽት የመሰሰሉ ነገሮች ያመጣል። ሆኖም ግን ወዲያ በአሰሪው ምክር ይስተካከልና ልጁንና ቤቱን መንከባከብ ይጀምራል። ሀምሳኛው ደቂቃ ሲቃረብ ልጁ ትምህርት ቅጥር ግቢ ውስጥ ስትጫወት በድንገት ትወድቃለች። ሀኪም ልብ ህመምተኛ ስለሆነች ውጭ ሄዳ ኦፔሬሽን ካላደረገች ለህይወትዋ እንድሚያስጋት ይነግረዋል። ልጁን ለማሳከም ሶስት መቶ ሺ ብር ያስፈልገዋል። ኤፍሬም ያን ያህል ገንዘብ የለውም።

ይህ በእንዲህ እንዳል ጋዜጣ ላይ እነዚያን ከሰባት ዓመት በፊት ጫካ ውስጥ ሰው ሲገድሉ ያያቸውን ሰዎች ያያል። ሀብታ ነጋዴዎች ናቸው። ወንጀላቸውን ሊጠቀምበት ይፈልጋል። ሶስት መቶ ሺ ብር ቁጭ ካላደረጋችሁ አጋልጠለሁ ይላቸዋል። ፎቶውን ሲያዩ ሰዎቹ ሳይወዱ ይከፍላሉ። ኤፍሬም ልጁን ያሳክማል።
