Great Early Action
Winter Harbour / Quatsino Fishing Report : By: The Outpost at Winter Harbour www.winterharbour.ca Salmon : SUBJECT : Great Early Action The huge Herring spawn returns in our area over the last two weeks have made early Chinook / King fishing better than usual for this time of year. We are catching fish in relatively shallow waters (60-100ft) near Kains Island and throughout the mouth of Quatsino. Fish are anywhere between 10-25lbs, which is on the large side for this time of year. Large inshore schools of Pilchard ( sardine ) have helped keep these local fish very well fed. This bodes extremely well for the coming season as we can expect some monster Springs. We are expecting the early Columbia-run fish anytime. Halibut/ Lingcod / Yelloweye: The unusually warm and stable weather of the last few weeks have made the groundfish areas very accessible. Halibut are feeding voraciously with many fish coming in in the 50-75lb range and most boats are quite easilly meeting daily limits. We are expecting a very busy season again this year in Winter Harbour but we do still have some prime time Charter / Accomodation space available.
