The Archive has records showing that Charles Frost first appeared in the Parish at the time of the 1871 census when he was farming at Coombe Farm owned by the Cutcliffe family. He was farming 250 acres and employed 3 men and 2 boys. He was 49 years old at the time, and was living there with his wife Harriett aged 46 years, along with his sons and his grandson Frank aged 15. He also had his daughters Harriett M aged 19 years, Eva aged 13, Kate aged 12 and Julia E aged 10.
By the time of the 1881 Census he was no longer the tenant at Coombe, and there was no alternate entry for him within the Parish. However in the 1891 Census he had re-appeared and was shown as being the Tenant at Mitre Farm which was operating as a Dairy. He was accompanied by his daughter Harriet M who was his housekeeper, along with his son Frank and his other daughter Kate.
Sadly I cannot trace any further information at this time, but hope this fills in a few loose ends. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further queries, or can provide me with any missing information relating to your family and Witheridge. |
