Mary Snell died in Witheridge around 1830 (forgive vagueness - I am away from my files at the moment). Her grave is in a prominent position as you enter the churchyard and indicates she died in emotive circumstances.
Her husband John Snell was only a labourer and in my experience would not have had money to spare for headstones/inscriptions etc.
I'm wondering if perhaps the stone was raised by public subscription due , perhaps, to the tragic nature of her death.
Is there anythung in the parish records which would give us a clue?
Many thanks
