Hard Rock National @ Ocala Fla.

Rain ran down the pit road like a river. Umberelas and panchos were the dress of the day. This was friday, the Ocala Fla. National. The Cross Country went off on schedule and was fast and fun, if you dont mind riding in the rain. The dirt there was sandy with rocks of different sizes blended in, traction was good and the riders settled into a fast pace and never slowed down. My Hodaka started first kick and we went off the line second behind a CZ, I couldnt get by off the line so I settled in right behind and just watched the lines the CZ rider was taking. Well about half way thru the first lap the Cz hit a large rock with the shifter I saw it fold straight down as the rider was looking for the next gear. I went past on the high side of the trail and never looked back. Holly Cow Im leading the race but there are a bunch of fast people right behind me, its time to pick up the pace, be safe and not make to many mistakes. I call this a Spirited Trail Ride. Ive never riden a National Cross Country but it seems like a good strategy to me. Well it worked, I put in 5 laps and after what seemed like 2 hours the checkered flag came out. (actual time was just over 1 hr.) The Hodaka ran fine and carried my big old body to a first place finish in the 50+ novice class. Theres something about riding a Hodaka in the woods, it seems so natural, the bike handles great and is forgiving, of mistakes a rider makes. I want to thank Strictly Hodaka (Paul) for information and parts that keep my bike running. I think my Hodaka was the only one entered in the C.C. and thats a shame, there a natural for this type racing. Well lets go to Diamond Dons and have some more fun. My number is 49H, stop by and say hey if you see me there.........Leo
