Preschool Summer Programs

My daughter was signed up for a summer program at her preschool, but after 51 years their board made them close. They had continually declining enrollment even after being NAEYC accredited and could no longer afford to function.

I just found out that the Down East Partnership for Children offers an organized summer play group for 3-5 year olds. It is free, and they even provide art supplies and snack!

I've also found a good children's museum called Marbles, and it's only about an hour away. We're headed there tomorrow!

What other types of programs or fun/educational things are available for preschoolers over the summer months? THANKS!

Re: Preschool Summer Programs

UPDATE: Marbles was great!

They have an amazing play area set up like a little town with the entrance being a slide out of the back of a real bus! There's a boat for fishing, a fire department & truck, an ambulance and hospital complete with NICU, a grocery store, a barn with stuffed animals and hobby horses, back porch with rocking chairs, kitchen & dining room, post office and delivery truck, an office to write in, a "treehouse" with telescope and animals, girly dress-up & stage, train tables... All of it has dress-up, working parts, and props related to each location! Whew!

And that's just the FIRST section!

Imagination Station -Save Our Science

I wanted to bring this to everyone's attention in case you can help.

Imagination Station is a grassroots kids science museum located in a historic site of a courthouse in Wilson, NC. In 2000, a fire in the middle of the night gutted the building and they lost all of their reptiles. Now over 8 years later, they are still in crippling debt from the repairs and trying to make up for what insurance did not cover. Please check out this link for a touching video about them and how to donate.

A friend of mine recently became their Science on Wheels educator, and our 3.5 year old really enjoys the museum. We just purchased family membership, and she donated change herself!
