Congrats on your purchase. The Renken is a very forgiving boat to sail. You guys will have a blast. It would be really hard to impossible to knock it down. A great and fun book is sailing for dummies (written by a couple of professional "cup" sailors.
I would be very interested in buying a wax paper pattern of a dodger canvas if that is what came with it. (you can sail with it up and gives you rain protection by the companion way hatch)
I am in the middle of an interior rebuild and am having fun sailing this great little boat.
If you buy a motor a 6hp pushes it to hull speed at less than half throttle. No use in trying a bigger one.
