What's more important strength or skill?
I have always wondered if skill matters as much as people think. For example Joe has a katana and Will has a rapier (fencing sword). Even if Will had fenced for years, there is no way he could defend against a heavier sword. Or even if the both had katanas. If Joe where stronger theres no way Will could block. What do you think? |

I know from experience that it is skill that matters. I am a what most people would call a roshi so i do have skill. but i also have strength. there was a kid that was half my size but he was able to avoid my attacks rather that block them.and even if you are weak you can hit a sword in a specific place and stop it. So if you ask me skill is what matters. |

Definatly skill. If you were only strong and went up against a guy with skill, You might get off a lucky hit but he can dance around you in circles, literally. |

Definatly skill because if the strong guy attacks you in a blind rage (as unskilled opponents often do) you side step and go for a stab. Or throw a dagger in them ******* face, always keep a dagger in ye boot. |

lets put it this way... I weigh 127 pounds and i have sparred with people double (and on one occasion triple) my weight. they are purly strength. i am vey skillful and fast since i have been useing a sword since i could walk. people who are "strength fighters" may have the occasional lucky strike. but people with skill can take them out within 3 moves at the most. one of my friends i was fighting could probably throw me across a room but i took him out before he could raise his sword to stance. |

Mostly any type of swordplay is more about dodging than actually blocking anyway, so skill is the way you want to go. |
