Sword carrying

I recently purchased a Celtic short sword.
No scabbard was available.

It was suggested I use a "ring" which attaches to belt. What is this? An Axe ring for carrying battle axes? I haven't heard of a belt ring for carrying swords?
Was this ever done?

Re: Sword carrying

yes, there is such a thing as a sword ring that goes onto your belt, it is much like an axe ring, but it tilts the sword so it points away from your back, problem is, many medieval fairs and sca events dont allow you to walk around with a bare sword in it,

your best bet is to do what i did, and make your own scabbard out of 8oz. or so leather, it isnt hard, and its pretty inexpensive, if you need help just ask

Re: Sword carrying

But is it legal to carry a sword? As far as it is a theatrical replica, it should be fine, but with a real weapon with no licence (and nowadays it is probably impossible to get one for such weapons), carrier could have serious problems with the police.

Re: Sword carrying

I checked with the local police, they said that as long as you didn't carry it as a concealed weapon, aka hide it under your coat or something, that carrying a sword was perfectly legal, no permits or licences required. This was in California, other states might be different.
Intresting

In Arizona you can carry arround a gun as long as it's in plain view. Just throught that was intresting, hearing you could carry arround a sword here in cali.

Re: Sword carrying

Sorry for the necro-post, but I have to correct this before someone gets arrested.

Xeno, regardless of what local police told you, you cannot legally carry a sword in California. You might get away with it where you live, because you already talked to the cops about it, but the official law states that you CANNOT CARRY A BLADE THAT SERVES NO PURPOSE OTHER THAN BODILY HARM. No daggers, no stilettos, no swords. Unfortunate, I know, but sadly, it is truth.

Please forgive the revival of a long-dead topic.
