driving me potty

Dear John - a song that's going around my head and driving me potty goes something like "I set off to travel across this land,
the stars were my guide, the birds were my rock and roll band". I sincerely hope it was your song (removes egg from face if not), as I am sure that MH qualifies as the marvellous 2-piece band my first wife and I saw in Paignton in 1974 (perhaps). And isn't that so long ago?...And as you are still making music - good for you (I drift away here - local celebs on the island I live on include Valdy, Bill Henderson of 'chilliwack', and Randy Bachman of the 'Guess Who'...all still pumping out good music)

Hi Peter

The song you're thinking of is 'Pictures in the Sky'. It's driving me potty now though - I can't remember which album it was on!!

Re: driving me potty

It wasn't on any original album although it's been compiled a few times. It's on the original 70's vinyl Rock Flashback which correctly titles it 'And the Pictures in the Sky.' It's on the 1969-72 best of Dandelion CD, as well as the See For Miles reissue of New Bottles Old Medicine. The Fiddlers Anthology DVD and CD include John's most recent recording of the track.

Not that hard to find then!

Re: driving me potty

Hey Peter!!! Thanks for posting!! Yes, Medicine Head "Pictures in the Sky". "and the stars were my charts, the birds were my rock'n'roll band" Good days! It was never released on an album in those days, we followed the idea that people should not have to pay twice for the same thing, you know, make an album, then release the tracks as singles!! Meanwhile, sounds like an interesting place you live in!! Say hi to everyone there from me! Peace all, John.

Re: driving me potty

Talking of 'Pictures In The Sky' : I love the single, and I've been trying to get hold of it on CD. However, every compilation album I've got bought - including the latest 3CD set on Cherry Red - has a different mix to the original vinyl version. On the 7" the piano is to the fore in the instrumental break; on all the CDs the piano is far back in the mix - except for the version on a Polydor 'Greatest Hits', which has the right mix; but in mono, not stereo! THAT's driving me potty. Fingers crossed for the next one, I suppose...

A Jolly Spiffing "Live in studio" Version of pictures was also released some years ago on a Peel Seeions compilation CD replete with Echo'y Handclaps By Jove !
(the session was From 1976 as i recall with John and Peter were Roger saunders and Morgan Fisher...
It just seems like yestersay...)
