I am starting my own daycare soon! Yahoo!
I am so excited! Here's my story! I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgian which for those of you who don't know os a chronic pain syndrom of the muscyloskeletal system and since I can't tolerate my old job sitting at a desk under flourescent lights I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how I could provide for my son being that I am a single Mom. My illness could allow me to claim disability but I didn't want to do that and my doctors want me to try and stay active. So since I love kids I decided to start my own daycare! It will be small, 5-6 kids, mostly infant to pre-school but a couple of school age childred so my son will have company. I will be working this summer to get licensed and CPR certified and I may have my first job watching an infant and 5 year old in home for income this summer. Any advice is appreciated! I haven't decided on a name yet. |

Well, congrats on opening your own home daycare! It is a lot of work, but worth it if you enjoy children!I have been doing home daycare for about seven years now and still enjoy it. The best advise that I can give is to save for when times are slim.In this business it is either feast or famine, you have to save for when you dont have enough kids to make your mortgage. It sounds harsh but ask anyone that has done this a while and they will tell you the same, you either have people ringing your phone off the hook( like this time of the year!) or you have times when you think your phone doesn't work,LOL,you keep checking it to see if it has a dial tone!Just kidding!Just keep this in mind,it will help! Good luck in this new phase of your life! Gina |

Hi Mija, Have you called around at different daycares to check their rates yet? At my daycare,I charge $125.00 per child, per week but I do give a discount to the parent and charge them a max of two hundred for two full time children. I dont take more than two children from one family as I am a small home daycare. Hopes this helps some. Gina

Congratulations on your decision to start your own daycare. I'm a math and science certified teacher in Michigan and now live in FL. My wife and I ran a very successful home day care in MI for close to 20 years. I should say she ran the business and I taught school, but during summers I was there to help. By the way, I have BRAND NEW nap cots available for sell. I was thinking of posting them on ebay. I also have the small plastic chairs with metal legs. All brand new. Let me know if you're interested in purchasing. Good luck and best wishes with your health. Tim http://www.childrensplaytime.com |
