My 12 year old daughter is being evaluated for a learning diability. Based on the tests I am seeing, I am concerned that they are only looking for ADD/ADHD. Although I cannot dispute that she is innattentive, I strongly suspect it is a defense mechanism she uses to hide the fact that she just doesn't process all of the information thrown at her in the classroom. She has a very hard time learning new math processes, and also exhibits problems with assembling written material. Her reading skills are exceptional, but if she is asked to write a paragraph about what she has just read, she struggles. Has anybody been through this. I'd really welcome some advice. |
