  1. What opportunities are there to work backstage?
Every Stagecraft production has a large team of people working behind the scenes, so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved according to your interests. The most important qualities we look for are enthusiasm, commitment and a team-working attitude. During rehearsals we have a prompt who may also act as a personal assistant to help the director by taking notes. The production manager is usually a member of the Stagecraft committee, but they may have an assistant, particularly if it's a large production. On the technical side, we have a lighting designer and operator, a sound designer and operator, a set construction and painting coordinator and crew, a wardrobe coordinator and assistants, a props coordinator and assistants, and a stage manager who usually has at least one assistant stage manager. We also need someone to manage front of house, plus people to take tickets and sell drinks and food for each performance. In addition, we need someone to take publicity photos for each production, and to design publicity materials such as the poster. If you'd like to get involved in a particular production, contact the director or production manager whose details will be in the audition notice on the 'Future productions' page.

  2. Will I get paid if I work backstage on one of your plays?
No, Stagecraft is a non-profit community theatre company and isn't legally allowed to pay anyone. However, you will learn a lot about theatre and have fun with a very committed and passionate group of people.
